An architectural design option for the Tran Hung Dao Bridge in Hanoi.
The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued Decision No. 6257/QD-UBND approving the selection of investors for Component Project 3: Investment and construction of Tran Hung Dao Bridge under the PPP method, BT contract, and payment by land fund.
Component Project 3: Investment and construction of Tran Hung Dao Bridge will be implemented in the wards of Hai Ba Trung, Hong Ha, Cua Nam, Long Bien, and Bo De - Hanoi City, with a scale and total investment as stipulated in Resolution No. 473/NQ-HĐND dated November 13, 2025, of the Hanoi People's Council.
According to Decision No. 6257/QD-UBND, the winning bidder is the Joint Venture of Cong Thanh Transportation Construction and Investment Joint Stock Company and Cat Ba Sun Company Limited, with the project implementation period from 2025 to 2027.
Component Project 3: Investment in the construction of Tran Hung Dao Bridge under the PPP method, BT contract, payment by land fund, aims to build Tran Hung Dao Bridge connecting the central area of Hanoi with the eastern area, completing the East-West connection of the city, creating conditions and prerequisites for urban, industrial, commercial, and service development; contributing to promoting socio-economic development, urban economy and creating an architectural highlight for the city.
The project also contributes to reducing traffic pressure on existing bridges over the Red River such as Long Bien, Chuong Duong, Vinh Tuy, and Thanh Tri bridges, facilitating travel between the central area and the developing eastern area of the capital.
The project scope includes the construction of the Tran Hung Dao Bridge, approximately 4.18 km long; starting at the Tran Hung Dao - Tran Thanh Tong intersection and ending at the Nguyen Son street.
The main bridge over the Red River is constructed according to current bridge design standards; the main bridge structure is a steel arch, with the main arch shape consisting of two overlapping curves repeating, creating a symbolic infinity shape; the span configuration is 6 x 145 m (2 continuous x 3 continuous spans), the main bridge length is 870 m, the cross-section is approximately 43 m wide, ensuring 6 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 lanes for bicycles, and 2 lanes for pedestrians.
The approach bridges on the Hoan Kiem, Hong Ha, and Hai Ba Trung wards use prestressed reinforced concrete slab beam structures, with cross-sections varying from 26 m to 41.5 m to connect the main bridge with the intersection branches. The Long Bien side utilizes a prestressed reinforced concrete box girder structure, designed to accommodate 6 lanes of motorized vehicles, with a total bridge approach length of approximately 1,213 m.
The project also includes the complete construction of 3 interchanges, including: a multi-level interchange with Tran Khanh Du and Nguyen Khoai roads; an interchange with the Ta Hong dike road (Long Bien – Xuan Quan road) and Co Linh road (excluding the construction and renovation of Co Linh - Hong Tien road at the intersection of Co Linh road with Tran Hung Dao bridge and connecting roads to Lam Du road, Bat Khoi road with Co Linh - Hong Tien road); and a level interchange with Nguyen Son road.
The preliminary total investment for the project is approximately VND 8,190.153 billion, of which the investor will self-finance 100% of the capital, including 15% equity capital and 85% borrowed capital and other legally mobilized capital.
